Back from the Dead: Zombie Cars

You don’t need to run from these zombies. These cars and trucks are coming back to life — much to the delight of many fans.

Ford Ranger

We haven’t seen a new Ford Ranger in nearly a decade. But rejoice! This midsize truck is coming back to the US in 2019. We’re going to see the new Ranger with an EcoBoost engine and a 10-speed automatic, making it the only truck in the segment to offer the latter. (We know, a truck with no manual is a travesty.) It will have three trims and a few options for packages. See? There’s no reason to be nervous about this zombie.

Toyota Supra

Much ink has already been spilled about the back-from-the-dead sports car (including by yours truly). Here’s all we’ll say: It shares a platform with the recently released BMW Z4. And we expect it back on dealership lots in 2019.

Chevrolet Blazer

We thought the Chevy Blazer was gone for good when it got discontinued in 2005. But it’s alive! It’ll be back in 2019 as a 5-seat crossover, sharing the same front-end design as the Camaro. Pricing, which will start at just under $30K, was announced earlier this month (and many outlets noted that the price will quickly climb to just under $50K). This new vehicle will go up against the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano. Will this zombie stand a chance?

Jeep Scrambler

The Jeep CJ-8, known as The Scrambler to its fans, had a short life — it was available for just five years before Jeep took it out of commission in 1986. (And fun fact: Hot Wheels commissioned its own Scrambler in 1997 to console all of us who were so heartbroken.) The new Jeep pickup — which we, the Internet, still call the Scrambler — will be out in 2020. Details remain sparse; we have only spy shots to console us at present. But we know it exists!

Alfa Romeo 8C

This zombie refuses to die — and we’re okay with that.  The first 8C was built in the 1930s. It was reborn in 2003 as a concept car (full name: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione) and later became a 2007 production model. Just 1,000 were made (and we have three of them on our site). We’re expecting it back in 2019, complete with a screaming fast 0-60 time of under 3 seconds, thanks to a 700+ horsepower engine. Alas, the price tag makes this a car for our dream garage instead of our real garage.
