Free Rides on New Year’s Eve: What You Need to Know

New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. To make sure you ring in the new year safely, rideshare companies and cities are offering free or discounted rides on Dec. 31.

Rideshare Companies

Many cities and organizations are partnering with Lyft and Uber for New Year’s Eve. Here are just a few of the discounts available, broken down by region:

Mid-Atlantic U.S.

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is offering a Lyft discount as part of its SoberDrive campaign. Functioning in the Washington D.C. area, the campaign offers a $15 promo code. You can access the SoberDrive promo code through the WRAP site.

South/Southeast U.S.

Kentucky riders can hail a Lyft by using the code SLEIGHRIDEKY thanks to SafeRideKY. They’ll get a discount of up to $10 off two rides through New Year’s Day. In Nashville, Krystal, which has 36 locations in Nashville, is offering free rides (up to $15) from 9 pm on Dec. 31 to 4 am on Jan. 1 for rides within a 25-mile radius of the city. Just use the promo code KRYSTALNYE. For Louisiana riders, use code DRIVESAFELA to get a $5 discount with Lyft. This promo applies to several Louisiana cities, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It starts at 6 pm and goes until 6 am on Jan. 1.

Midwest U.S.

Riders in the Metro Detroit area will also be able to access a $35 reimbursement by riding with Lyft or Uber. This takes a little more effort than inputting a promo code. You’ll need to save your receipt, then send it to Christensen Law, a firm based in Detroit, along with a copy of your driver’s license.

Western U.S.

Riders in Eugene, Oregon can get a discount for both Lyft and Uber rides. Use code NYERIDE18 to get $5 off Lyft starting at 8 pm and SAFERIDE2018 to unlock the same discount with Uber. If you live in Phoenix, Arizona, use the code CLNYE18 to get 10 percent off two rides with Uber. If you prefer riding with Lyft, you can use the code SAFEARIZONA18 to get 20 percent off two rides.
